I have been part of BNI for seventeen years. My journey started in a Core Group, and from there I spent eight years as a member, holding almost every Leadership Team role except President.
I am an introvert, and back then I was no natural networker. Learning to stand up and speak with confidence didn't come easily, so I understand the challenges members face around inviting, speaking, and giving referrals.
What I have learned is that by simply following the system, these skills can be learned and applied. These days I find referral opportunities while standing in a queue at the shop, or just by paying attention to what people around me are saying and doing. It has become second nature, and the same is true for speaking in front of others.
Being part of BNI brings more than networking skills and business growth — it brings personal growth on so many levels. I have watched this organisation not only grow businesses, but save them, and I have seen members show up for each other, time and again.
